About Rory
I am a recent university graduate who is about to undertake postgraduate study. I read PPE at Oxford and specialised in political theory and all aspects of philosophy. I have had academic work published in a well respected student journal.
I came to oxford from a state school background and am enthusiastic to help others applying to oxbridge. I studied IB, in which I excelled at history, english literature and philosophy as my HL subject. we will be better matched if you are on this course of study or have roughly these ambitions.
I have a real love of my subjects and, over the past three years of grappling with academic style and the content of my course, have gained valuable insights and skills that I am eager to share. Really I want to carry on talking about the things that truly captivate me (and realistically, get a bit of pocketmoney at the same time).

My approach focuses on refining your academic thinking and writing techniques. At the beginning of our first session we will lay down a preliminary course of study, but if new priorities appear, you will always be able to decide on the content of lessons.
A lesson will typically last an hour. I will reconstruct in my classes the core debates. The key is to understand what the main dividing lines are, and what motivates the different positions. I will also spend time discussing and teaching a toolbox of philosophical concepts and frameworks, as well as helping with essay writing.
We then proceed to analyse pieces of your writing, looking for ways to improve, and clarify things not understood. If you message me beforehand with a problem you'd like to discuss or a topic you don't understand, it will help the flow of the lesson.
