About Halima
I have been tutoring from February 2020 with students of various abilities and backgrounds. Having started out with 2 GCSE science students which saw a 2-grade improvement, which put them at the top of their class as well as moving them up to the top set, I am confident in delivering lessons that tailor well to the student.
Additionally, I have had experience with teaching maths across the exams as I have tutored primary school students who had their teaching disturbed due to the pandemic. This was very rewarding as I got to build a personal relationship with the student which aided in both their studies and their confidence in themselves.
As I am involved in many access programs at Oxford, I can help out with admission tests for Natural Sciences at Cambridge as well as the TSA Section 1 for Oxford applications. Furthermore, I will be available to help out with writing competitive personal statements for UCAS applications, alongside organising mock interviews.

When it comes to effective tutoring, I tend to implement the following plan.
1. Understand where the student is currently at with the subject, whether that is through looking at recent exams and tests from school or a casual conversation.
2. Make a list of short term and long term goals to ensure everything is put into perspective. This could include reaching a certain grade for their exam or getting accepted into university. Alongside these goals, we will make a plan as to how to achieve them.
3. Going through the syllabus/content and marking their confidence so we can prioritise certain topics over others, which will then form the basis of the lesson plans.
The actual sessions (timing depending on the student) will typically have 3 parts. Firstly there will be a time for the student to ask any questions they have come across and need help with, alongside looking at any work set beforehand. Then the actual will include going through the topic in detail, engaging the student by asking questions throughout. Towards the end, we will look at past paper questions which will put the content into context, typically with more past paper questions set as work to complete afterwards (and I am more than happy to mark!).
