I have been teaching English to non-native speakers since 2006. I believe that it is necessary to first analyse which level the learner is on and then to build from there. Pacing ourselves to reach set goals.
I am a motivated teacher who believes that if you work hard, you will reap the rewards.
I like to include music and rhymes in my lessons. I've found this really assists learners in learning concepts a lot quicker.
A concept must first be understood before moving on to a new one. Knowledge is like building. If there is no firm foundation, the walls will eventually fall in. Understanding creates confidence and that in turn motivates a learner to carry on learning.
My first experience was when I was chosen as English tutor for foreign exchange students at our University. There I saw the need for patient and well-qualified teachers to assist learners who aim to learn new languages, or better their skills.
I obtained my Teaching Degree in 2005 and started teaching non-native English speakers. Working them up to Home Language Speaker level.
Ages I have taught range from 4 - 35 years. Currently I have a class of 44 non-native speaking Grade 2 learners in front of me during the day. My task being to equip them with the knowledge and confidence to read, write and speak English
