About Arwen

My creativity journey started young. My first love was photography as a young person. Over the years, my interests shifted to metalworking and jewelry and this is what I got my BFA in, at Missouri State University in 2015. After college, I was more into drawing, as it was an accessible hobby with little setup. I typically use bristol watercolor paper, pencil to sketch out a basic idea and then watercolor pens or fine line markers to achieve the look I am going for. I have also started incorporating canvas and acrylic paint pens to achieve a similar look. I am inspired by the natural world, coupled with a surrealist vibe. I also worked for 5+ years at a jewelry store and assisted numerous customers in designing custom jewelry. I acted as a liaison between customer and jeweler to create these pieces. I have done many live drawing events over the years as well and love to talk with people about my work. It may sound strange, but one of my favorite parts of college was the critique sessions after we would all complete our work. It is helpful to get outside perspective on the pieces we create because often we are our harshest critic.

About the lesson

I am open to tutoring all ages and skill levels!
Our first meeting will consist of a discussion assessing skill level, motivation, goals/objectives and what skills we would like to focus on. After this chat, we can build a custom plan for you or your child, also discussing what kind of time investment is necessary.
A typical session might involve an activity like discussing color theory, mixing colors or organizing the elements you would like to include in your drawing. I will coach you along the way and we can discuss problems as they arise. I will show examples in real time to help you better understand. At the end of the session, we can discuss any issues or feedback that is necessary.
I am flexible and open to switching up tactics if you feel something is not working. If you want to learn something I am not as familiar with, I will teach it to myself to better assist you on your creativity quest.
