About Me & Why I Teach

I'm a medical student studying in the Caribbean, and, first and foremost, I'm someone who genuinely enjoys learning. I've experienced both the excitement of finally understanding a difficult concept and the frustration of feeling overwhelmed by material that just doesn't seem to make sense.

That experience is one of the reasons I want to teach. As a student myself, I understand that learning isn't always easy. I've had to figure out how to study effectively, how to work through difficult concepts, and how to keep going when the workload feels overwhelming. I want to use what I've learned from those experiences to help other students navigate their own learning journeys.

I'm particularly passionate about helping students understand why things work the way they do. I believe curiosity is an important part of learning. When you become curious about why something happens, you're no longer just memorising information—you start making connections, asking better questions, and developing the ability to reason through unfamiliar problems.

This is especially important in science and medicine, where concepts build on one another and understanding one idea can help you solve a completely different problem later.

Ultimately, I want my lessons to do more than help you get through a particular topic or exam. I want to help you become a more confident, curious, and independent learner—someone who feels capable of figuring things out, even when faced with something new.

As a student, I know what it feels like to be on the other side of the lesson. I'm here to make that side a little easier.

About the lesson

My Approach to Lessons

I believe learning should be active, engaging, and built around understanding—not simply memorizing information.

In my lessons, I don't want you to just listen to me explain a concept and copy notes. I want you to think, participate, explain, and apply what you've learned. If I teach you a concept, I'll often ask you to explain it back to me in your own words. This helps me see what you truly understand and where we may need to go deeper.

I also place a strong emphasis on understanding why. Rather than simply telling you, “This is the answer—remember it,” I want us to explore the reasoning behind the answer. Understanding the why makes knowledge easier to remember and, more importantly, gives you something you can use when you encounter a new or unfamiliar question.

For subjects like biology, physiology, and microbiology, this is especially valuable because concepts are often connected. Understanding one concept deeply can give you the foundation to reason through another—even when you've never seen the exact question before.

My goal isn't simply to help you get through one lesson or memorize information for one exam. I want to help you develop curiosity, confidence, and the habit of thinking things through for yourself.

So expect our lessons to be interactive. We'll explain, question, retrieve, connect ideas, and apply what we learn—because I believe the best learning happens when you aren't just receiving the information; you're actively working with it.
