About Hassab

I am Hassab, a medical doctor based in Abu Dhabi.

I qualified with an MBBS from the University of Science and Technology, where my graduation thesis was awarded Grade A. My training covered anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, pharmacology and pathology across five years, with clinical rotations in internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics and obstetrics. I am also certified in Primary Trauma Care by Médecins Sans Frontières, including the Training of Trainers component, which qualifies me to teach those protocols to others.

Teaching found me before I expected it to. After qualifying, I was appointed Anatomy Teaching Assistant at two medical schools, teaching undergraduate medical students in tutorial groups and one to one, running practical demonstrations, and preparing them for examinations. I discovered there that I enjoyed the moment a difficult concept finally lands more than almost anything else in medicine. I had already been tutoring school students in Biology, Chemistry and Science throughout my own degree, and I have continued since.

What I bring that most tutors cannot is depth. When a student asks the question the textbook does not answer, I can usually answer it, because I studied these subjects far beyond the level they are being examined on. That changes what a lesson can be. Instead of covering the syllabus, we can go into why something works, and a student who understands why can handle a question they have never seen before.

I am particularly glad to work with students aiming at medicine, dentistry or biomedical sciences. I have been exactly where they are, sat the examinations they are sitting, and I can tell them honestly what the next stage involves rather than repeating what a prospectus says.

I am a native Arabic speaker and fluent in English, so I teach in whichever language a student thinks in, which matters more than people expect when the material is difficult. I am patient, I am reliable about timekeeping, and I would rather a student ask me the same question three times than pretend to understand.

I offer a free first lesson so that families can see how I work before committing to anything.

I am a medical doctor (MBBS) and I taught anatomy to undergraduate medical students at two medical schools before moving into school tutoring. My graduation thesis was awarded Grade A. I have also tutored school students in Biology, Chemistry and Science since my own degree, and I hold Primary Trauma Care certification from Médecins Sans Frontières, including qualification as a trainer.

My lessons are 60, 90 or 120 minutes, one to one, in person across Abu Dhabi or online. Sixty minutes suits weekly maintenance and homework support. Ninety minutes is my usual recommendation, long enough to cover a topic properly and practice it. Two hours works well during exam season, or when a student needs to get through a full unit in one sitting, and I structure those as two halves with a short break, because concentration on new material drops after about ninety minutes.

The first session is diagnostic and I do not charge for it. Most students who are struggling are not struggling with this year's material. They are missing something from two years earlier, and no amount of revision fixes that until we find it. So I start by locating the gap rather than by starting the syllabus over.

After that, I work from past papers and mark schemes from the very first lesson. A correct answer written the wrong way still loses marks, so I show students exactly how the examiner awards them and what a full-mark response actually looks like. I explain a concept several different ways until one lands, because the explanation that works for one student often does nothing for the next.

Above all I teach the reasoning rather than the definition. A student who understands why an enzyme is inhibited can answer a question they have never seen before. A student who memorized the definition cannot, and that difference is what separates a B from an A at A-Level, and a 5 from a 7 at IB Higher Level.

Who my lessons are for: Biology at IGCSE, A-Level and IB Diploma, which is my specialism. Chemistry at IGCSE and AS-Level. General Science and Mathematics up to IGCSE. Science for Years 7 to 9.

Students aiming for medicine, dentistry or biomedical sciences gain the most from working with me. I have sat the examinations they are working towards, studied these subjects to clinical depth over five years, and can tell them honestly what the next stage demands rather than repeating what a prospectus says.

I teach in Arabic or English, whichever the student thinks in. The first lesson is free, so there is nothing to lose in trying.
