About Nathan
Hi, I’m Nathan, a third-year BE(Hons) student at the University of Canterbury, majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Aerospace.
I strongly believe every student is capable of achieving at a high level with the right support. My goal is to build confidence and understanding by guiding students toward “lightbulb moments”, encouraging questions, and helping them learn effectively from mistakes.
I have experience tutoring first-year engineering students at UC in both group and one-on-one settings, along with practical and office-based engineering experience. This has strengthened my ability to explain complex concepts clearly and support students through exams and challenging coursework.

My teaching focuses on helping students understand the why behind concepts, using guided questions, clear step-by-step problem solving, and active practice. I adapt explanations to each student’s learning style and emphasize learning from mistakes to build confidence and independence.
A typical lesson is 60 minutes, with time to review key ideas, work through problems, and consolidate understanding, though longer sessions are available if required.
I tutor a range of levels, from first and second-year university STEM to NCEA, Cambridge, and junior students. Lessons are available online or in person within the Christchurch area.
