About Ali

I am a Mechanical Engineer from the University of Strathclyde with 5 years of professional tutoring experience.

I achieved 4A*s in A-Level Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Further Maths.
At university, I was placed on the Dean’s List twice for academic excellence.

I teach Maths, Physics, and Chemistry at Nat 5, Higher, Advanced Higher, GCSE, and A-Level. I also teach Engineering Mathematics and other Engineering modules.

My teaching style is clear, patient, and tailored to each student. I focus on breaking down concepts and creating a comfortable space for students to ask questions and learn.

Whether you're aiming to pass the course or to push for top grades, I'm here to support you every step of the way!

Each lesson is thoughtfully planned and personalised to your individual needs, whether you're looking to build a solid foundation, tackle exam-style questions or master challenging topics. I focus on clear, step-by-step explanations and encourage active discussion so you understand not just the how, but the why behind each concept.

Lessons can include topic learning, problem-solving support, homework guidance, structured exam preparation, and more. We’ll move through the course content systematically, incorporating past paper questions to build exam confidence and maximise performance.

I’m highly patient and adaptable to different learning styles, and I work to create a supportive environment where students feel confident in asking questions and overcoming learning challenges.

By the end of each session, you’ll walk away with a deeper understanding, sharper problem-solving skills, and greater confidence to apply your knowledge, especially under exam conditions.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I have always been passionate about Maths and Science. These subjects have fascinated me since my early school days. Throughout school, I naturally found myself helping classmates with challenging topics. Watching them improve and succeed because of my support gave me an incredible sense of satisfaction and purpose. It was then that I realised, private tutoring is the career path that I was truly destined for.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and Mechanical Engineering. Among these, Maths is my favorite subject to teach because it revolves around logical thinking and problem-solving. I enjoy challenging my students and witnessing their cognitive skills develop and strengthen with consistent practice.
On the other hand, topics that involve heavy memorisation of theoretical content, such as Astrophysics and Inorganic Chemistry, are less enjoyable for me to teach. While these subjects are indeed fascinating, they tend to involve less logical reasoning and more rote learning, which doesn't align as closely with my teaching style.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I've had many excellent teachers in my life, but my A-Level Chemistry teacher truly stood out. Like me, he was an engineer who chose teaching out of passion. Before A-Levels, Chemistry wasn't my strong suit, but his interactive and innovative teaching methods made me fall in love with the subject. He played a key role in shaping my academic confidence and inspiring my own journey into tutoring.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor needs strong subject knowledge, but just as importantly, the ability to explain concepts clearly and adapt to different learning styles. Patience, empathy, and good communication are essential, as is the ability to build a student's confidence. A great tutor not only helps with academic progress but also inspires independent thinking and a genuine interest in learning.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

My A-Level Maths teacher used to say, "Maths is not a spectator's sport, it's a players sport". You could watch matches on TV all day, but you won't learn how to play until you gear up and practise on the field. The same goes for Maths. Practice is key to mastering it. This lesson stuck with me and now shapes how I encourage my students to actively engage with problems rather than just passively observing and memorising solutions.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

A big challenge I encountered was bridging the gap between theory and practical application. Sometimes the concepts in textbooks felt abstract until I saw how they applied to real-world problems. This experience taught me the importance of making lessons relevant and hands-on, which I now focus on when tutoring to help students connect with the material.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion lies at the intersection of teaching and problem-solving. I love breaking down complex concepts into understandable parts and seeing the moment when a student's face lights up with understanding. While I enjoy the subject itself, it's the process of guiding others to build confidence and critical thinking skills that truly motivates me. Helping students unlock their maximum potential is what makes teaching so rewarding.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

I'm patient, adaptable and can bring out the best in anyone, no matter their starting point. Feel free to scroll up and check my reviews to see for yourself! ;-)
