About Boikanyo

I am a BSc Eng in Mechatronics Engineering Student at the University of Cape Town. I received 7 distinctions in my matric year including in Mathematics, as well as a B in Advanced Programme Mathematics. I have loved maths since I was young which is one of the reasons I have decided to pursue engineering.

I also have experience teaching others maths in school, whether it was helping some of my friends out or volunteering to teach disadvantaged primary school students maths.

What I understand now as an engineering student doing a much more difficult level of mathematics, is what it is like to struggle and not understand topics. I have learnt how to overcome these challenges and how to deal with topics I don't initially understand, not just logically but emotionally as well.

I also managed to achieve these high levels of mathematics in high school while doing several other extra murals, so I understand that maths should not be something that takes several hours away from other enjoyable activities.

I truly believe that I have the expertise, skills and experience to be a great tutor for both high school and primary school maths students.

About the lesson

I received distinctions in maths throughout high school so I understand what it takes to reach that level.
I have also volunteered to teach primary school maths for free during my high school career.

I teach through active engagement eg. practice problems, explanation through analogies that can be understood at varying levels, and using science-backed learning strategies such as active recall and spaced repetition to improve long-term learning.

Students can expect care and patience in the learning process, and turn learning from an uncomfortable experience to a fun one while improving their marks.

Lessons would be tailored to a student's needs. This could include reexplaining a concept they didn't fully understand and pinpointing their exact areas of struggle through the Feynman Technique, or going through practice problems, highlighting areas of struggle and turning them into areas of strength to name a few.

English is my most proficient language so I learn and teach in English.

I will strive to not only get students the best maths marks that they can, but to find the joy in mathematics.
