About Sophia
I completed my Ph.D. in Mathematics at UC Berkeley and have been tutoring math in the Bay Area for 8 years. As a former lecturer at a local community college, I taught both remedial math and upper-division courses. I also coach a program for underrepresented students preparing for math competitions. I offer flexible scheduling, including early morning and late evening sessions, and I’m certified in teaching secondary and adult learners. My goal is to instill both skills and confidence, so math becomes a tool for any future endeavor.

My approach focuses on deep understanding through multiple representations—algebraic, graphical, and numerical. We begin by diagnosing any gaps in foundational skills (fractions, algebraic manipulation) before moving to higher-level topics like trigonometry, pre-calculus, and calculus. Lessons incorporate visual tools such as GeoGebra and Desmos, real-life applications (data analysis for personal budgets, geometry in architecture), and collaborative problem solving. I also assign mini-projects for applied learning, like analyzing traffic patterns in your own neighborhood.
