About Ali
I hold an MSc in Applied Mathematics from McMaster University and have more than four years of teaching experience. This includes university-level courses at McMaster, work as a math instructor, and preparation of students for SAT.
Having been a student myself, I understand how difficult some topics in mathematics and physics can feel, because I went through the same challenges. I teach in English and Russian. For me, teaching is not just a job, it is a lifestyle. I enjoy explaining complex ideas, communicating with students, and learning something new from them in the process.
My goal is to help students build real understanding and confidence in mathematics and physics.

I work with Grade 9–12 and university students in Mathematics and Physics, including SAT preparation. Most of my students come with low motivation and the goal of simply passing the exam. Over time many of them change their attitude and start to see that math is not as bad as they thought.
My approach combines clear structure with real human connection. I use humor, build trust, and regularly switch roles — I ask the student to explain the material back to me as if they were the teacher. This method significantly improves understanding and retention.
In the first meeting I get to know the student, assess their level, and explain a topic. If the fit is good, we continue.
When a student struggles, I explain the same concept in different ways. If needed, I go back to the basics and send additional video materials after the lesson for review.
I am supportive, but I set clear expectations from the beginning: consistent effort and completed homework are required.
Recommendations
Recommendations are written by the tutor's friends, family, and acquaintances.
I studied MATH 1A03 with Ali when I was preparing for my midterm. I was struggling a lot at the beginning because I had forgotten many high school basics and felt behind.
Ali explained everything very clearly and patiently. He always made sure I understood the meaning of the concepts, not just the formulas. Thanks to his lessons I felt much more confident going into the midterm.
I would definitely recommend him to other McMaster students who need help with calculus.See more recommendations
