About Michael
Michael Medina is the Principal Trombone of the San Gabriel Valley Symphony and a proud SGV native. He earned degrees in Trombone Performance and Music Education from the University of Redlands (’24), as well as a Master’s in Learning and Teaching.
Michael is also the Co-Founder, arranger and trombonist of OFFTHEAIR, a Southern California-based funk/pop band. He also regularly subs for the salsa band Los Chicos Del Mambo and he can be heard in recording studios and film projects.
In addition to his regular performing duties, Michael is an assistant music librarian, having done work for many of the orchestras in the Inland Empire and an audio engineer.
As an educator who teaches privately and actively freelances, Michael is passionate about expanding youth access to the arts through both education and performance. He is a believer in life-long learning and will be starting his Masters in Performance at CSULB in Fall 2026

The free first lesson with Michael allows you to get to know the tutor and discuss your needs and expectations.

Details
The free lesson serves as a consultation to see whether the student and I are a good fit for each other. This allows us the chance to get to know each other, get some insight on what lessons might be like and have an understanding on my teaching style and the students learning style.
The travel fee covers the cost of travel (gas, maintenance, etc.)
