About Tom

I have been tutoring for 2+ years now and I especially enjoy seeing students of all ages grow in their communication skills and confidence (the two often going hand in hand). Not only verbally, but in writing ability too. As a writer myself, teaching writing stimulates my creativity too and I particularly enjoy fostering a sense of community and support in budding writers.

About the lesson

For Literature and Language, I teach a specific skill set of analysis techniques that can be adapted to whatever texts they encounter academically, from Shakespeare, to modern literature, to poetry. These can be split into language and structural analysis. I also teach creative writing, using exercises, planning and creative techniques to make writing more impactful and effective towards its purpose. I particularly enjoy teaching ways of structuring stories, using easy-to-follow visual aids.

I have experience marking GCSE English exam papers and am very familiar with each exam paper in Language and Literature.
