About Karen
With 10 years experience in classroom teaching, coaching sports, and tutoring, I have developed fulfilling, long-lasting relationships with my students. I am serious about growth and education, yet friendly and silly. Laughing is very important to my health and well-being, as well as my ability to create supportive and nurturing environments. I love traveling, reading, and paddle boarding, and do all three often. I enjoy spending time in nature and am highly competitive. I just wrapped up a softball season and often compete in pickleball tournaments with my favorite mixed doubles partner. Having varied life experiences creates a well-rounded person so I try new things as much as possible to expand my mind and build engaging hobbies for myself.

Dynamic, upbeat, and student-centered, my lessons follow a predictable routine to build executive function skills. You can expect a "Do Now" to start the lesson, a brief 5 minute task related to the lesson topic to get your brain thinking, followed by an introduction to the topic, direct instruction, guided practice, then independent practice. Lastly, expect a "cool down" to show your learning and understanding of concepts taught in the session. The more we know each other, the more tailored each lesson is your personal interests and learning style. Reflection, as well as giving and receiving feedback, is a large part of learning so expect to spend some time evaluating your growth, successes and preferred modifications. Be prepared to share your ideas. You opinion matters greatly!
