About Joella
I am a highly motivated Economics student at the University of Exeter (predicted First Class Honours), I recently returned home from studying abroad at the University of Tokyo. I achieved A*A*A* at A-Level, including Mathematics, and have over 5 years of experience tutoring students from primary level through to GCSE and A-Level.
Through tutoring 20+ students, I have developed a strong ability to explain complex concepts in a clear, structured, and engaging way. My approach is tailored to each student, whether that’s building foundational understanding, improving exam technique, or boosting confidence ahead of assessments. I have a proven track record of helping students improve their grades by multiple levels.
Alongside tutoring, I have gained experience in finance through internships, where I developed strong analytical and problem-solving skills. I bring this structured, logical approach into my teaching to help students not only understand maths, but feel confident applying it independently.
I am friendly, patient, and focused on creating a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making progress.

Lessons are tailored to each student’s needs and goals, whether that’s improving overall understanding, preparing for exams, or targeting specific weak areas.
A typical lesson will involve reviewing key concepts, working through exam-style questions, and developing clear problem-solving techniques. I place a strong emphasis on exam technique, helping students understand how to approach questions efficiently and maximise marks.
I adapt my teaching style depending on the student, whether they prefer step-by-step guidance, more independent practice, or a focus on building confidence with the basics. I also provide structured explanations, worked examples, and targeted practice to reinforce learning between sessions.
For GCSE and A-Level students, I use past papers and mark schemes to ensure lessons are aligned with exam board requirements and help students achieve the highest possible grades.
