About John
With teaching, there's never a dull moment, and witnessing students 'get it' is one of the most exhilarating experiences - whether through creative or formal writing tasks, response to text essays, or research reports examining the links between ancient heroes and their modern-day movie counterparts. With 16 years as a teacher of both Classical Studies and English (while acting as a Head of Department across both subjects), you'll be in capable hands as I impart hints, tips and tricks to help you nail that pesky speech presentation, construct a fluent and perceptive connections report, or excel as you discuss ideologies of the ancient world. I am fluent with NCEA Levels 1-3 - as well as Scholarship - including the changes which are due to be implemented in 2024. I am also happy to assist with students who need that extra edge in Years 9 and 10.

With student needs at the centre of my practice, I cater to you - any queries, concerns or consternations will be addressed, before we focus on the mechanics of the assessment, with no task beyond the sphere of my experience. To that end, lessons can go for as long as they need, but typically will last an hour, which includes time for recaps or any lingering questions.
