The methodology actually depends on what you wish to learn first, for instance some people just want to play the finger style, some people just want to play as a lead (only mid tones) whereas some people sing along so its different.
For learning from scratch I focus on things which will help you to gain knowledge of instrument quickly and can learn independently after that according to your choice
