About Alexis

I graduated from the University of Toronto in 2021. While I was there, I published a novel and worked as a copyeditor for the university. In addition, I have two published poems and work as a freelance tutor for a variety of subjects including literacy, poetry, and various types of writing.

I am now in law school learning about legal writing - very exciting! I firmly believe that there is a fundamental flaw in the public school system in which teachers and students don't foster the kind of supportive relationship that breeds academic success. Every student learns differently and it's important to take the time to talk with them about what best works for them.

As a tutor, I don't see myself as superior to my students. We are all constantly learning about ourselves and the world around us. I can't wait to get started! :)

About the lesson

I believe that a student can only be as successful as the their teacher is in the classroom. I like to establish a strong sense of trust with my students and take the time to get to know them and their learning style.

Typically, I like to begin a lesson by asking the student how they are and what they feel they need to focus more time on within a particular subject. Then, we will review the main takeaways from the previous lesson. By asking the student to guide me, I can let them take control of their own academic success and orient the lessons toward what will benefit them most.

At the end of a lesson, we will review the main takeaways from the day's lesson.

My lessons are for everyone - regardless of grade level, age etc. There is no tolerance for disrespect or discrimination of any kind in the learning environment.
