About Gemma

I am currently an ESL teacher, a blogger, and a freelance copywriter. I have been teaching ESL to both children and adults since September 2018. I have taught children as young as 3 years old, and various other children/teenagers at different levels. I have also taught ESL to adults from entry-level to proficiency for the same amount of time. My degree is in journalism, and my career before teaching ESL has always involved journalism, editorial work, and writing.

We can go through any subject area that you would like to learn about, and we will learn in whichever way suits you best. I have several different teaching techniques, and I can guarantee that at least one of them will suit you, if not more than one. I also have different lessons for us to go through together and again, it depends on which one suits you. Some of my students like to mix things up, and others want to stick to one type of lesson. You won’t know until you try them all.

What can I do for you?

Together we can improve your English, we can make you sound more like a native, and we can build your confidence. I can teach you both British and American English, I can help you to get the job you have been dreaming of, and I can give you the confidence to speak with native speakers.

A lot of people know the basics of English, but not many of them stand out from the crowd, and that is what I want for you. It’s important to know about colloquialisms, to know how and when to use idioms, and it’s also good to learn ‘slang’ if you are living in or travelling to the UK. Nobody likes to nod along, pretending to know what a person is saying, and this is something that we can work on together.

Yes, I teach English, I teach grammar, and I like to make sure that all of my students pronounce everything perfectly. However, I also like to make sure that they know the colloquial language and terms that they will come across when speaking to a native English speaker.

There is so much more to English than grammar, and I pride myself on delivering that. I am a very relaxed teacher, in fact, I see my students as friends. Learning does not have to be boring, not with me anyway. I can and will make you independent, confident, and comfortable when it comes to speaking English, and I always guarantee a relaxed environment with no pressure. Everything that we do will be at your own pace.

About the lesson

I adapt my teaching method and style to suit the individual. I like to get to know my students and learn how they work best and stick to that style. I have a number of different lesson plans and learning styles, and I guarantee that one of them will suit you.
