About Shawna
I’m Shawna Penney, a passionate middle school English educator dedicated to helping students become confident communicators, thoughtful readers, and strong writers. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Arts from Elmhurst University and am completing my Master’s in Teaching Middle School English at National Louis University. With years of experience teaching, coaching, and mentoring adolescents, I understand how to balance high academic expectations with encouragement and support. My teaching style blends structure, creativity, and connection, creating an engaging learning environment where students feel safe to take risks and grow. I focus on building foundational literacy skills, critical thinking, and high school readiness while honoring each student’s unique voice.
