About James
I think the school curriculum in UK art is tailored towards expression and creativity, both of which are important but miss out an important stage beforehand... Learning to draw.
Learning the basics when it comes to form, perspective and light will allow you to be infinitely more creative by first establishing the ability to represent your ideas.
In my professional work I am primarily an oil painter, specialising in portraiture. I find people are a fascinating subject to paint as accurate representation and form can help express subtle emotions and ideas.

- I will focus on fundamental aspects of drawing. I specialise in portraiture but the basics have to be well understood in order to approach a complicated form such as the human face. Ideally over the course of 5 or 6 lessons I will guide you through perspective drawing, light and shadow, construction of the face and the use of colour.
- typically my lessons are 60 to 90 minutes and aimed towards adults (16+) that would like to either improve their drawing and painting or learn where and how to start from scratch.
- I have a 1st class degree in illustration and have been a freelance painter for 5 years. I taught myself to draw at an early age and have been slowly improving ever since, through my course I hope to explain the most valuable techniques and lessons I have learnt through the years.
