There have been countless nights when I’ve stayed up late to help students prepare for exams often outside of paid time, reviewing their work, answering last-minute questions, and even creating personalized resources like flashcards or quick-reference guides. I believe that every student deserves a tutor who is as invested in their goals as they are, and I’m always ready to step in—whether it’s marking practice exams at midnight or offering encouragement during stressful times. Your success is my priority, and I’ll always go the extra mile to help you achieve it.

Find out more about Drishya

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I first developed an interest in tutoring during high school when I began helping classmates prepare for their NCEA exams. I quickly realised how much I enjoyed breaking complex topics into clear, understandable steps and seeing that “lightbulb moment” when everything clicked. What started as casual peer support turned into a genuine passion for education and student growth.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach mainly Biology, Chemistry, and Physics at NCEA Level 1–3, as well as HSFY (Health Science First Year) university courses like HUBS, CELS, and BIOC. I love teaching systems-based biology and organic chemistry — the kind of topics that make students see how science connects to real life and medicine. The only parts I like slightly less are the overly repetitive rote-learning bits that don’t spark curiosity — I always try to make those engaging by adding context or examples.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes — my Year 13 Chemistry teacher completely changed the way I saw learning. She treated every student like they were capable of excellence and made the subject feel logical and achievable. Her patience and clarity really shaped how I now approach teaching: with empathy, structure, and respect.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor needs three things: clarity, adaptability, and emotional intelligence.

Clarity to explain difficult concepts simply.

Adaptability to change teaching methods depending on each student’s learning style.

Emotional intelligence to read when a student feels overwhelmed, unmotivated, or anxious — and respond supportively.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

Once, a student I taught failed her first chemistry internal. We spent weeks building her confidence, revising smarter, not harder — and she ended the year with an Excellence endorsement. Seeing her go from doubting herself to tutoring others was honestly one of the most rewarding moments of my tutoring journey.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

At university level, the pace of content in biomedical sciences can be intense. Learning how to manage huge volumes of information while keeping the bigger picture in mind was challenging. That experience now helps me teach students how to structure their study habits to avoid burnout and retain depth of understanding.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My main passion is education accessibility — helping students realise that top results aren’t limited to those with natural talent or expensive resources. I enjoy creating tools and systems that make learning more structured and less stressful.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

I care deeply about my students’ growth — not just grades, but confidence, independence, and mindset. I design personalised study plans, provide resources tailored to each student, and teach them how to think like high achievers. I’d say what makes me a Superprof is not just what I teach, but how I help students believe they can master anything they set their mind to.
