About Jay
I am a recent BA History graduate from the University of Oxford, currently on a gap year before starting an MSc in Political Science at LSE next year. During my gap year, I have worked in politics, getting involved with the Labour Party. I love learning, and will continue to be a student myself for a while longer as I intend to do a law conversion after my MSc.

I take an individualised approach to my lessons, basing my program of teaching upon your personal strengths and weaknesses. To do this, I ask for 2-3 essays or exam answers you've previously written for class in advance of the first session, and from there I work out what you need to do to improve, and how I can help.
In my experience, the trick to mastering exams in these subjects is never memorising every fact in the textbook; the key is working out what matters and how to communicate that effectively in an essay. I'm all about working smarter, not just harder, and I look forward to helping you do the same.
My lessons normally follow a 'tutorial style', in that I ask a student to submit a piece of work prior to the lesson, which then forms the basis for the following discussion. I tend to go for one hour lessons, to ensure that any issues raised by an essay have time to be fully explored and ironed out. However, I also utilise more traditional teaching methods when running a revision session or focusing on a singular aspect of a student's performance such as exam technique.
I teach predominantly GCSE and A Level, with a special focus on essay technique and exam strategy. I achieved full marks in all of my GCSE and A Level coursework, and greatly enjoy helping students to reach their potential in longer form essays such as coursework projects and EPQs.
I am also very happy to help with Oxbridge entrance process. I have experience in assisting pupils to prepare for the HAT test, guiding extra reading beyond the A Level syllabus, and helping to write Personal Statements.
My qualifications are:
BA History from University of Oxford
A*A*A*A* at A Level in History, Mathematics, Geography and the EPQ
8A*s and 2As at GCSE
