About Porsha
I have been teaching for over 10 years. I have taught all grades in elementary. I also teach during the year as a Kindergarten teacher. 11 years ago when I first thought about teaching, I was a part of a company called, Mad Science. A company that focused on making lessons, hands-on and exciting for children. Because of that experience I have learned the importance of students feeling excitement about learning. I have also taughtSpecial education as a resource teacher for three years. I am ESL certified and I most recently completed my year of Reading Academy. Reading academy taught me how to help new readers with phonics, decoding, fluency and many other aspects that good readers need. I also have many strategies for students who need growth in comprehension, inferencing, etc.

My lessons are interactive and I try to add some fun so that the lesson is attainable for young students. Hands-on lessons are typically more conducive to students understanding a new topic. Therefore, I may ask that students collect small items around their home to assist with a new concept. All hands-on lessons will be taught using gradual release. Meaning first, I will show the expectations of the experiment and then we will do it together, and then the student will be allowed to do it on their own with me facilitating. Then a brief non-formal test will take place to ensure the student understood the concept.
