About Abby
Growing up I was always the kid doodling eyes on the corner of my notebooks. As I got older I continued to draw, learning from my own mistakes. By the time I was in my high school senior art class, the teacher would ask me to assist him, and I would go to each classmate and help them with their project. Wether they were working on a self portrait, an observational drawing, or even an architectural drawing, I was able to use my knowledge to help and guide them, improving their work.
As I was graduating high school, I made a portfolio of my work for an art exhibit which won me an art scholarship.
Going into college, I wanted to have art tied to my career, and choosing Marketing allowed me to do this. During my studies, I would teach private art lessons on the side to 20 year old students, and also continue one on ones with children from my town. In the summer, I worked as a summer camp art instructor, which required me going to different schools every week. Each week the classroom was filled with around 20 kids, and I would direct multiple art projects per day.
All of my experiences have opened my eyes to my love of teaching art. Working with another person to help them create something that they didn't even think they were capable of is such a unique and rewarding experience, no matter their age or skill.

In my lessons we will focus on building a strong foundation in knowledge before moving on to more advanced topics, ensuring a thorough understanding and ability to replicate their work outside of a lesson. I will cater to the student's preferred style, while instilling a realism base that enables them to draw anything they see, increasing their overall ability. We can focus on portraits, building up to this skill by teaching facial anatomy, but also honing their ability to put what they see onto paper with confidence, which covers a wider base than just portraits.
I have worked with children who have drawn beautiful portraits with me, but also on their own after a lesson. Any skill level and age is welcome as each lesson is personal and special. If a student wants to work with color, charcoal, colored paper, or simply focus on pencil and paper, we can make it happen.
Art is so fun, and it deserves to be taught in an engaging way that gives a student the ability to create work they love, while also understanding the process behind it.
