About Manish

I am a Biochemist with a BSc (Hons) from the University of Manchester and a PGCE at King's College London. I have taught in many schools in Greater Manchester and London. Over the years I have gained experience on how students learn and strive for their best with success when one of my students got into Oxford to read Medicine. I have three children of my own and my eldest is at University College London (UCL) in her fourth and final year reading MPharm. My son if in his first year reading Quantity Surveying my youngest is still in secondary school. I have over 25 years of teaching experience. I have been Head of Subject and Key Stage coordinator. I specialise in GCSE Biology, Chemistry & Physics and, A Level Biology & Chemistry with AQA, OCR & EDEXCEL curriculums. I have taught A level Biology and Chemistry and now taking on A Level Physisc across private, independent and public schools. I have been an examiner of AQA and Edexcel in the past and have access to a range of up to date resources as well as an understanding of what examiners are looking for. Currently, with my teaching, I coach other teachers to better develop their teaching and mentor beginner or PGCE student teachers.

I have been involved in out-of-hours learning in terms of Science MasterClasses which has helped to promote and reinforce learners' motivation and potential. I feel that many students who are willing to learn and improve their knowledge should be given the best for their time and I am strongly in support of positive teaching, raising achievement and equal opportunities for all students in addition to giving a culture of success. I will be using a combination of tailored PowerPoints and exam question practice with the appropriate exam board where I have access to AQA, OCR, Edexcel/iEdexcel up-to-date questions. Exam practice and Exam skills is the key to Exam Success.

Find out more about Manish

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I have tutored face-to-face way back in 2004 when I was an established teacher and tutoring A-level Biology and some GCSE Science tutoring. I moved to London from Manchester and used to tutor in a tuition center around 2007. Since the lockdown, I have made use of online teaching methods and gathered resources to do this effectively.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I had a great, and wise A-level biology teacher who was funny but organized and made learning enjoyable with short notes and more methods and examples. Incidentally, I had a strict, but good, chemistry GCSE teacher where I ended up teaching Science along with him in my old school some eight years later.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

No information overload, no massive copying, more modelling questions and trying yourself and working on difficult areas, closing any gaps in knowledge. Exam practice questions always more than anything else as that's what you will be doing at the end of the day.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

A-level Biology concepts can be easy to understand as you can link them to everyday life as a human but, applying essay-type answers can be difficult getting all the facts down. For Chemistry, it is making the student understand the unseen and visualize and understand these concepts that can be difficult at first... but once you get it, it's easy... less content than Biology, however.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

When you have been teaching as long as I have, it's nice to see these students making good of themselves. From getting into university to getting a career, their own house and building their own family showing great success and, as a teacher/tutor, being part of that.
