About Tess

Hello!

My name is Tess and I am a writing tutor for high school through graduate school students.

I have been working alongside undergraduate students for 2+ years to develop their writing.

I know that tutoring can seem very intimidating - but not to worry! As a graduate student, I understand the stresses of school and academic assignments. So try not to think of these as strict “lessons”, but rather a conversation between the two of us.

You can feel free to bring your writing to me in ANY stage of its completion - even just an assignment prompt is enough for us to work from!

Whatever your questions or worries, I am here for you, to help you learn and develop your writing and creative thinking skills.

At the end of the day, we are both writers and have much to learn from each other. I look forward to accompanying you on your writing journey!

About the lesson

When approaching my lessons, my goal is to create a welcoming environment in which the student feels comfortable engaging in conversation and sharing their creative thoughts.

My lesson plans are tailored to assist the student in ANY step of their writing/creative process. This includes anything from working through the prompt with them, to helping them polish their finalized work.

My lessons are focused around asking questions and encouraging the student to brainstorm and work through the writing themselves, with my assistance.

As an individual with a cognitive disability (ADHD), I recognize how each student needs different approaches and time to think through their writing. As a tutor, my job is to help each student find the writing techniques that work best for them, and to assist them in expanding their creative abilities and confidence.

My specific concentration is in the liberal arts (ex: research papers, English essays, creative writing). My lessons are specifically tailored for Undergraduate students, high school students, and graduate students within these disciplines.
