About Janet
Hello there! I am here to help you find your art voice and confidence because even those people that say they can't draw to save their lives, can still Art! You would not believe the plethora of artists, styles, techniques, approaches, and inspiration that we can learn from. So whether you're already an artist at heart that would love to connect deeper with your inner artist, or you would like to discover a new way to express yourself- I'm here to teach you all the tools you need and can explore with!

My teaching technique focuses on finding a connection between the student and the material being covered. A typical lesson plan starts with a brief history of the artist that will inspire our lesson and how that artist used the Art Elements or Principles being introduced (in this example: color theory). The student is given a few exercises to get those creative muscles warmed up, and familiarized with 1 or 2 vocabulary words. Finally, a final art project is discussed (painting with oils or watercolors, creative mixed media collages, diving into hands-on materials for sculpture making, paper mache, charcoal drawing, you name it!) and the student has the freedom to utilize any or all of the techniques discussed and exercised. If at this point the student is having a hard time executing technique or material, I take my time to discuss other artists in the similar art style, or that used (the color theory) similarly as the artist being used until we find a happy connection between student and material being covered for that lesson. These lessons are easily adapted for any grade level starting from Kinder to High School 12th grade (and beyond!)

Details
If we book online, I will provide a list of materials with different prices/locations that can help you make the best shopping decision for your needs. Material list can also be tentative to switch to a different art project with the same concept, but with a price that is friendlier for you. I will also email tailored handout exercises and PowerPoint slides. If we book to meet at your home or another public location, I will provide basic materials (brushes, scissors and glue, pencil and erasers, markers, colored pencils, mixed media paper, construction paper, rulers, tempera paint, Crayola watercolor palettes, containers for water/paint). If our project consists of oil paints, charcoal/charcoal pencils, canvases, modeling clay, or other mixed media material not already mentioned, would be purchased by you. As always, you will find open and transparent communication with materials!
