About Derrick
With 7+ years of teaching and tutoring experience for English and ethnic studies subjects, helping others achieve their goals has remained one of my passions wherever I go. Before graduating from UCLA's class of 2020 with a double major in English and Asian American Studies, I was also a student at Yonsei University in Korea, San Francisco State University, and West Valley College. Throughout each of these environments, I've gained a unique perspective, as I've been able to connect with individuals from around the globe and use each of these experiences to strengthen my understanding of people, student life, and educational systems. As a result, I'm more than happy to share my tips, tricks, and insights into how students can succeed wherever they go, and give proper guidance to help them grow.

As a tutor, I strive to create a calm, fun, and comfortable environment to help students meet their specific goals while enjoying the learning process. I believe that genuinely connecting with each student to understand who they are as an individual is especially beneficial to their success. Additionally, helping them develop their foundations and relevant skills so they can succeed in future endeavors on their own is equally crucial to ensuring that our time together is well-spent. Therefore, regardless of whether a student is at the beginning of their academic journey, preparing for university or grad school, updating their resume, or rehearsing for a job interview, I'm happy to meet every student where they're at and take them closer to achieving the life of their dreams.
