About the lesson

[Introduction – 5 minutes] “Good morning, students! I hope you're all doing well today. Today, we are going to explore one of the most important and basic units of life: the cell. By the end of this lesson, you should be able to: 1. Identify the major parts of a cell 2. Explain the function of each part 3. Differentiate between plant and animal cells [Presentation – 15 minutes] “First, let’s talk about what a cell is. A cell is the smallest unit of life that can carry out all life processes. All living organisms—plants, animals, bacteria—are made of cells. Cells are mainly of two types: Prokaryotic cells (like bacteria, no nucleus) Eukaryotic cells (plants and animals, have a nucleus) Let’s focus on eukaryotic cells, which we find in humans, animals, and plants. Main Parts of the Cell (show diagram): 1. Cell Membrane – the outer boundary, controls what enters and leaves the cell 2. Cytoplasm – jelly-like fluid that fills the cell 3. Nucleus – control center, contains DNA 4. Mitochondria – the powerhouse, produces energy 5. Ribosomes – make proteins 6. Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) – transports materials 7. Golgi Apparatus – packages and ships proteins 8. Lysosomes – break down waste (mainly in animal cells) 9. Chloroplasts – in plant cells, used in photosynthesis 10. Cell Wall – only in plant cells, gives shape and support 11. Vacuole – stores water and nutrients (larger in plant cells) 🧍‍🦴 Key Difference: Plant cells have cell walls and chloroplasts, while animal cells do not.
