About Hemma

I am Hemma! (some people call me Hem) I am 21 years old and have just finished studying a politics degree at one of the UK's top universities. I love dogs, I have a Golden Retriever named Daisy who sometimes makes special guest appearances in lessons. I love to teach because I love to see my students grow passionate about English and hear different perspectives on novels and literary pieces. In my spare time I volunteer, ice skate, play badminton, play video games, practice my language skills and cook. I am very much a busy-body which comes in handy as an English tutor as I am always looking for ways to improve.

About the lesson

How your first lesson with me will look:
I like to first gauge a sense of your learning style and how you work best. I will not expect you to complete a whole exam question in front of me and grade it, but I will typically present you with an easy exam-style question and ask you how you will go about answering it. This will help me figure out what level you are working at and your overall understanding of how exam questions could be answered. Remember, there is 0 judgement when it comes to ability and this is mainly for my use. After this, I like to get to know you as I believe tutors should be approachable, friendly and non-intimidating. I will then go over with you the aims and results you would like to achieve through tutoring and anything you would to improve.
Later lessons will include various resources and media's so to keep sessions interesting and keep you engaged. I tend to start each lesson with a fun pop quiz that recaps the previous lesson. As a tutor,I have consistently gotten results through the attention I pay to the mark scheme and curriculum. This is what helped me do so well in English at school, it has helped my previous students and it will help you. I provide bi-weekly recaps of the Assessment Objectives (what your exams will be marked using) and cover all aspects of the subject you are studying. Above all, I bring excitement, positivity and optimism to lessons, get in touch, book a trial lesson, improve your results and find your passion for English!
