About Emma
Hi, I’m Emma Kavanagh, a qualified secondary school teacher specializing in History and Geography.
I’ve always loved teaching because I genuinely enjoy seeing the moment when a student goes from “I don’t get this” to “Oh, I understand it now!” For me, tutoring isn’t just about getting through the course or learning information off by heart. It’s about helping students understand what they are learning, build confidence and realize that they are capable of achieving more than they might think.
Having worked in secondary education, I understand that every student is different. Some students need extra support with the basics, others know the content but struggle to turn their knowledge into exam marks, while others are aiming for the highest grades and want to push themselves further.
That’s why my approach to grinds is personal and completely tailored to each student. I want to get to know how you learn, what you find challenging and what you want to achieve, and then use our time together in a way that actually works for you.
I offer one-to-one Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate History and Geography grinds, with lessons focused on the areas where you need the most help. We can work on understanding difficult topics, exam technique, essay and answer structure, case studies, revision strategies and building the confidence to tackle exam questions independently.
I want my grinds to be a place where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and saying “I don’t understand” without feeling embarrassed. There is no such thing as a silly question, and I believe students learn best when they feel supported rather than pressured.
Ultimately, I want my students to leave each session feeling more confident, more prepared and more capable than when they arrived.
If I can help a student discover that they actually can do Geography or History — and maybe even enjoy it along the way — then that’s exactly why I love teaching.

I offer one-to-one Geography and History grinds for Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate students, with a focus on making each lesson genuinely useful to the individual student.
Every student learns differently, so I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. I take the time to understand where you are currently at, what you find difficult, how you learn best and what you want to achieve. From there, we can build lessons around your specific needs rather than simply working through a textbook.
As a qualified secondary school teacher of History and Geography, I understand the demands of the Irish curriculum and what is expected from students in exams. I can help students build confidence with difficult topics, improve their exam technique, structure stronger answers and understand exactly what examiners are looking for.
Whether you are struggling to keep up, looking to improve your grade or aiming for those top marks, our sessions will be supportive, relaxed and focused on progress. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and admitting when they don't understand something — because that's where real learning happens.
For Geography, we can work on everything from physical and human geography to map skills, case studies, geographical investigation and exam questions. For History, sessions can focus on understanding key events and people, developing strong arguments, learning how to structure answers and using evidence effectively.
Most importantly, I want students to leave each grind feeling that they understand something they didn't understand before and have a clear idea of how to improve.
My aim isn't simply to help students memorize information for an exam — it's to help them understand the subject, develop confidence and learn how to approach questions independently.
Whether you're looking for support, improvement or that final push towards your target grade, I will tailor each session specifically to you.
