About Kirsty
I'm an 18-year-old student at the University of Auckland, currently completing a Bachelor of Science with a major in Exercise Science and Physiology. I am a graduate of St Peter’s Cambridge, where I completed the International Baccalaureate (IB). During high school, I was heavily involved in sport. While this taught me strong discipline and teamwork skills, it also meant I sometimes found it challenging to balance training with academic demands. Through working with tutors myself, I learned how valuable personalized support can be in building understanding and confidence in difficult subjects. Now that I have completed high school and developed strong time management and study skills at university, I am passionate about giving back by supporting students who may be facing similar challenges. I understand what it feels like to struggle with certain topics, and I aim to create a supportive, patient, and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions. I am committed to being well-prepared, professional, and reliable, and I take pride in helping students build both academic skills and self-confidence.

Before each lesson, I take time to ask students what they’re finding difficult so we can focus on the areas that matter most to them. If a student isn’t sure what they’re struggling with, I familiarize myself with their curriculum and identify key topics that may need extra support. From there, I design lessons that target individual weaknesses and build understanding step by step. My teaching style is flexible and student-centered. I use clear explanations, guided practice questions, and games and interactive activities for younger students. In future lessons, I like to revisit previously covered topics to check understanding and ensure knowledge has been retained, not just memorized. Lessons are typically one hour long, but I’m always happy to adjust the structure or pace to suit each student’s needs. I have previous tutoring experience with high school mathematics and am confident working with students from primary school through to secondary school (Years 1–13). My goal is not only to improve academic results, but also to help students feel more confident in their abilities and develop a positive attitude toward learning. I look forward to supporting students on their learning journey.
