About Sofia

I have taught ESOL/ TEFL in the UK and Italy for many years. I have delivered Functional Skills E1 to L2 Maths, English and ICT to apprentices and tutored GCSE and I GCSE students. I am fluent in Italian and have run several part time courses in Italian to children and adults. I specialise in students with barriers to learning and confidence issues. Learning is hard work and a pain to fit into our busy lives, so let's have fun and let me find ways to make your learning experience more enjoyable and therefore more effective.

About the lesson

After gaining a good understanding of my student and their ability and preferences, I base my lessons around the things that they are interested in and make their learning applicable to them and their lives. I like to use role play, quizzes and games. I try to keep the pace to the right speed to match my student's ability and encourage a relaxed environment where students feel free to express themselves and feel embarrassed if the get anything wrong.

Our son was having trouble with his GCSE English. He couldn't concentrate on the learning, construct his essays correctly or articulate the concepts of the texts. He was heading towards failing his GCSE English. Sofia went through the subjects with him and made it all relevant to him. He had tutoring once a week and after she worked her magic he could explain to us what he had to do (which he couldn't before) and he passed his English! We are very grateful to Sofia for being able to connect with him and explain learning in different and more accessible ways.
