About Jiayi
Life as a student is stressful these days. I don't only teach; I am a listening ear catering my approach to different interests. I will own up - there are times when I realise that students are not "in the mood"; at those moments, they need a listening ear, someone to bounce off ideas, someone to listen, someone to motivate them instead. This is where I am flexible, offering academic counselling and helping students figure out their subject choices in school or strategies to mitigate stress rather than academic cramming all the time.

For math, I always start with topic based teaching to reinforce what is taught in schools. Only when there is a strong foundation and understanding of the topic, then I will introduce harder word problems and heuristics to solve bonus questions. These bonus questions are the main type of questions that tell an average student than a good scorer apart, and I will introduce this slowly as we go along.
My experience tells me that the key stumbling block for Math is not understanding word problems. I will teach your child tips and how to go about it: (1) identify key words, (2) identify the topic in question, (3) identify what the question is asking for, (4) getting to the solution step by step.
For Science, the trouble is often with the open-ended questions. My style is to run through concepts with the child first, and then identifying the key words that should be used to get the marks. There are also some "formulas" to get at the right answer, and I will be teaching your child that when we encounter those questions.
