About Duncan

I’m a full-time online tutor, Cambridge Natural Sciences graduate and qualified teacher. My academic background spans science, education, philosophy and theology, and I particularly enjoy helping students see how ideas connect across Maths and Science rather than treating each topic as an isolated set of rules.
I taught in schools for three academic years before returning to private tutoring, and now work full-time with students at GCSE/IGCSE and A-level. My current work includes both complete home-education programmes and support alongside school.
I enjoy working with able, thoughtful students who want to understand their subjects properly as well as achieve strong examination results. I aim to be clear, encouraging and academically ambitious, while adapting the pace and structure of teaching to the individual student.

About the lesson

I teach one-hour online lessons in GCSE/IGCSE Maths and Sciences and A-level Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry. My approach combines clear explanation, worked examples, diagrams and carefully chosen practice, with regular assessment to identify gaps and guide what we do next.
I particularly enjoy working with students who need a coherent programme over time rather than occasional topic help. I currently plan and deliver complete home-education programmes as well as supporting students alongside school, and I am comfortable coordinating several related subjects for the same student.
I am a qualified teacher and Cambridge Natural Sciences graduate with three academic years of school teaching experience and substantial private tutoring experience. I aim to help students understand why methods work, become confident with unfamiliar problems and prepare carefully for the demands of their exam specification.
