About Dylan
I love teaching because I love to learn; I want to share this passion. I did not love exams because they only encourage memorisation. Only after school did I realise that I could educate myself, and I discovered how wonderful it is to learn.
By encouraging a love of learning, I guarantee that I can make those exams merely a hindrance on the path to a lifelong passion.
I hold an MSc in theoretical physics (Merit) from the University of Edinburgh, and currently work as a freelance writer. My writing has appeared in the FT, the Spectator and Philosophy Now.

The best way to teach is to make the subject interesting. I encourage you to forget the tedious world of exams and good grades. My view is that if you truly understand a subject, then you can pass any exam.
I suggest regular discussions to make the students feel at ease, but also to show them that the distinctions between subjects are entirely arbitrary.
I strongly emphasise that there is nothing to fear. Ask any question; get things wrong; make a 'silly' mistake. This is the best way to learn. In fact, it is the only way to learn.
Another great way to learn something is to teach it. I encourage the student, when she or he is comfortable, to teach me about things we have learnt.
A typical lesson will begin with about 15 mins of revision (talking through a subject, going over key points, highlighting weak areas). Then the student leads. We might introduce a new subject or revise some more. If we are near the exams, we might work through some past-paper questions. I always have a plan, but I am ready to alter the lesson to suit the needs of the student.
