About Kayla
Hi! I’m Kayla, a former teacher who is passionate about helping students build confidence, strong literacy skills, and a genuine enjoyment of learning. I believe every student has potential, and my approach is to meet you where you are and help you move forward at a pace that feels supportive, not stressful. With a major in History (with a special focus on the Regency Era) and years of classroom experience, I bring both subject expertise and proven teaching strategies to every session. I’ve taught a wide range of Ontario secondary courses, including Grade 9, 11, and 12 English; Canadian, American, World, Ancient, and FNMI History; World Religions; and FNMI Studies at the Grade 10-12 level. This broad background allows me to support students across multiple subjects while keeping expectations clear and achievable. I specialize in essay editing, creative writing support, EQAO and OSSLT test preparation, and building core reading and writing skills. Whether you’re working to improve grades, prepare for a standardized test, or feel more confident expressing your ideas, I focus on clear feedback, practical strategies, and encouragement every step of the way. My sessions are professional, friendly, and student-focused. My goal is to help you not only succeed academically but also leave each session feeling more confident in your abilities and better equipped for future challenges.

My goal is to ensure you leave our sessions feeling you have gained skills, understand the content better than when you arrived, and are overall confident in yourself. I will always tailor our work to your needs. I am most comfortable working with students in grades 7-12 in History, Geography, English, FNMI Studies, and World Religions. I can also help with test prep for the Ontario Grade 3 & 6 EQAO and the Ontario Grade 10 Literacy Test. I am also comfortable working with college and university students in English and History courses.
