About Spike

Hi! I am a Physics graduate from the University of Manchester and graduated with a first class degree. My background lies heavily in Nuclear Physics but I have good understanding of all areas of Physics and have deep roots in Mathematics. I have taught A-Level students in an individual setting as well as running group tuition for courses on my degree. I achieved high A*'s in both Maths and Physics and full marks in a large portion of my exams. This did not come naturally and came about through a repetitive but methodical process of learning, which I hope to pass onto my students.

About the lesson

As a recent student I understand the equal importance of both deep understanding of subject material, and knowing how to apply it to an exam. It's all well and good knowing your content forwards and backwards but what really matters is how you tackle exam questions.

Physics papers usually have two types of questions. Maths based questions; applying the equations you've learnt to real life scenarios often in unusual or new ways. There are also Physics based questions; english style writing questions that seek to apply your knowledge to coherently answer questions.

For maths based questions: I believe in repetition from the get go. I want you to get a feel for the exam paper and know how to tackle it regardless of what comes up. We will see similar looking questions and write out a few step method for how to tackle them in the future.

For the physics based questions: Again repetition comes into play, theres only so much an examiner can ask you. We'll hone in on specific topics, target mark schemes as well as good use of english to structure well worded answers that will hit the top marks. For students seeking the top grades we will work to strengthen our understanding of the physics behind maths based problems in order to answer more difficult questions.
