About Can

My name is Can I am Final year studying Dentistry at Queen Mary’s University. I am able to teach GCSE Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths and further Maths, as well as teaching A-level Biology, Chemistry and Maths. I am friendly and encouraging and believe that tutoring should be about more than just academic skills and knowledge. I think an essential part of tutoring should be raising a child’s self-confidence. Making sure that they believe themselves that they can do this. During the lesson I use many strategies and styles to create a stimulating and enjoyable learning experience. I use teaching styles which match the learner’s learning style. I can give techniques and tactics and shortcuts to important information which would save a lot of time during the exam, because the new GCSEs and A-levels are not recalling information anymore it is more of understanding and applying their knowledge, which is the key skill that I have. I always check if my students have understood the topic by providing additional questions which I prepare myself on the spot, making sure they understand the topic first, so therefore they can answer exam question. As their homework I would provide them with exam questions at different difficulty. Also I inform the student’s parent after every lesson on how the student is doing. FINAL note: I can provide with special UKCAT training to get into medical and dental school, as well as easing through personal statements and Dental interviews. N.B. when you request, please add details of your exam board and course, because I may have to do extra preparation to cover the course.

My teaching method involves multiple step teaching, starting with simple and easy and gradually increasing the level of the hardness. Providing multiple examples as well relating it to real life for students to relate and remember more easily. Provide several questions after each topic and on top to reinforce the knowledge more question is given as homework.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

This all start many years ago with casually helping my younger brother (now he is studying medicine 😉) to improve his grades in year 6 and year 7 onwards. He was struggling quite badly. After my informal lessons he got highest grades while being a bottom set.

This has helped me realise, I may have potential. One thing I have realised is, that getting top grades is only a part of being a good tutor, the most important skill is to pass that valuable knowledge adn transfer it to the student.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

Well, my specialty is in GCSE maths biology, physics and chemistry. As well as A-level Biology, Chemistry, Maths. Chemistry and Biology is pretty much what my course as imbedded in it.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

My role model is myself, my opponent is myself, and my inspiration is myself also the results i get from my work.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Qualities are endless for being a good tutor, the main ones i think are knowledgeable, patient, to have sympathy and empathy, compliant, adaptive.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

Well, I was not the most well behaved or top student at the start. And I am a living proof that coming from a disadvantageous background, going to a state public school and sixth form in London, get good grades, and also get into Dentistry, which is one of the toughest courses to get into.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

Well, the subjects that I tutor are the subjects I excel in.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

Yes once I graduate and become a doctor, I would like to go into private dentistry but also be a clinical tutor in my university dental school.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions

I have very good experience, good exam techniques and resources, tips and tricks to save a lot time and effort, it's all about working smart and not hard.
