About Rachel
I am is a creative, compassionate teacher. I fell in love with yoga and meditation in 2001, and within a few years, I knew I wanted to teach. I trained at Kripalu in 2006 and have been teaching yoga in Midcoast Maine ever since. In 2014, I founded The Dancing Elephant to create a gathering place for yoga, meditation, and art in downtown Rockland. I has a Masters in Education, as well as teaching certificates in Kripalu Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, Art and Yoga, Children’s Yoga, and Yin Yoga. I am a Shambhala Meditation Guide. Prior to opening the studio, I served as Executive Director of the Georges River Land Trust and the Director of Julia's Gallery for Young Artists at the Farnsworth.
I love working with new and experienced students! It is a privilege to share the journey of yoga.
A friend suggested that I might like yoga! I gave it a try and fell in love. I had been an athlete through college. Yoga and meditation added a level of mindfulness that really helped me!

With private yoga clients, I spend the first session listening, learning, and offering a practice to support the client's needs. Everyone is unique. I am sensitive and supportive.
In a class setting, I take the time to get to know new students at the beginning of class, checking in about any sensitivites or support needed.
I have experience working with students who are recovering from injuries, who want to set up a home practice, who want to begin a yoga practice, who want to learn meditation, and who want to advance their practice.
Take the time to get to know the teacher, by setting up a phone call before a private session or coming to a class to try it out. It is important to find a teacher that you resonate with and trust.
I've been teaching Gentle Yoga on Thursday nights for 10 years. Last night, the room was full of such good energy for learning, healing, and sharing.
