About Alyssa

Hello! I graduated from Bowling Green State University with my bachelors in Two-Dimensional Studies and Arts Management. I am currently finishing my Masters in Arts Administration at The University of Akron. I have been teaching art for the past three years in drawing, painting, and multimedia. I have my own studio practice as well as painting commissions (murals, oil paintings etc.). I have a passion for working with those who have disabilities, as my brother has Autism and uses art as his outlet to express himself. Art is something I believe is for everyone, and helps us communicate our desires.

What I enjoy most is to see a student of mine look at his/her artwork and simply, be proud. Watching my students have the freedom to use their creative minds in an environment where there are no right or wrong answers, just pure effort makes what I do absolutely worthwile. Educating others on the art world-what it has to offer not only career wise, but for the mind opens up the doors to many pathways that I enjoy hearing about my students embarking on.

I started teaching when I was in my undergrad. I was an Arts Education major, but switched toward the end to pursue more arts management. However, I continued to teach students at a local museum and I also did personal at home tutoring. Being that I loved it, I continued to do it as I continue my education as well.

I have my Bachelors degree in Two- Dimensional Arts and another degree in Arts Management. I also am 2 classes away from my Masters in Arts Administration. I have been teaching for three years in an after school art organization and have been asked to teach at multiple school programs. As a young artist, I am beginning to have more commissioned based work as well as showing in local galleries.

About the lesson

When working with a new student, I like to sit them down and get to know them better. Whether they prefer to tell me in words or pictures. I want to know what they want to learn and what they are inspired by. That way, I make sure I am making the best of their time spent with me. I usually give an exercise that demonstrates their confidence and creativity.

Young, old, abled, disabled, underserved... pretty much all!

Make sure that you have a phone or in person conversation about what you want out of the lessons prior to delving in too deep. You and the teacher both may find it to be a great match or that there could be someone else out there that one of you knows would be a better fit.

The Kusama exhibition! Super cool!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
How and where do I learn best? How do I prefer to be communicated with? Do I express how I feel about criticism toward my work? Depending on the art that I want to learn about, how much time do I want to spend per lesson to get the best out of the lesson(s)?

With my education and experience, I charge $35/hour. If the lesson is online, I am willing to drop my price a bit due to convenience. Driving a far distance does come into play with my cost. If a student is taking more than one class with me, I will do $30/hour.
