About Hannah
I am currently working as a Research Associate at the University of Bristol. In my previous roles I have worked with children and young people, firstly as an academic mentor in a primary school and secondly working in the school nursing service. Prior to this I completed an MSc in Nutrition, Physical Activity and Public Health at the University of Bristol having achieved a first class BSc Human Biosciences degree from the University of Exeter. Through these degrees I have covered a wide breadth of topics including genetics, nutrition, anatomy and physiology. I have extensive tutoring experience both face to face and remotely for GCSE, A level and undergraduate students across the range of sciences.

The first lesson will be spent getting to know each other and to find out the student's likes and dislikes within their chosen subject. This will also be useful to find out which syllabus they are doing and at what point they are in it. What the students I have tutored in the past have found useful is going through their class notes on the topic in the first part of the lesson and compare this with the key information from the syllabus. This allows any mistakes to be corrected and more information or detail to be added where perhaps what is written is a little vague. If the student had been given any homework then we would next go through this. I strongly believe that as a tutor you should encourage and help the student to do their best but this does not include doing their homework for them! Before the lesson I will find relevant questions to the topic, either from past papers or just based off the syllabus as I feel applying the knowledge is an essential part of learning. I think a good technique is to breakdown what the question is asking and discuss what they have learnt and apply it to the question. Answering these would be a great activity for the student to do by themselves for us to go through at the start of the next online session! I want my students to come away from the online lesson feeling more confident in not just the content of the topic discussed but how they could answer different questions on it as well.
