About Sofia

I have been in choir since the fourth grade and placed third chair in region competition. From Freshman to Junior year of high school, I sang on my church's worship team singing ranges from soprano to alto while teaching harmonies to the worship team. Currently, I am a part of the top choir group at my school and a part of Cantare, which is our competing choir group and have won many awards, such as placing first in the Disney Music Festival. I help my fellow classmates on musicality and sight reading along with how to pronounce text in different languages. Also, I am Vice-President of my choir and give musical input to the leadership board. On the other hand, I was on the varsity basketball team throughout my Junior High career. I played point guard and was known for playing smart on the court. I would help teach the 7th graders on runs we would play and help them work on their technique.

What I enjoy about the work I do is the emtional connection and musical technique you gain from the music. Music is very diverse, complex and constantly changing which is an aspect I enjoy very much. In choir, I love the fact that I can pick up any sheet of music and sing it due to my knowledge of sight reading and solfage. Also, I very much enjoy sharing the beautiful language of music with other muscians because together, music has th power to reach the unreachable

Becasue of my passion for music and knowledge I've gained the past years, I decided pass o the knowledge to other muscian. Also, teaching my worship team how to sing harmonies taught me how to become patient with other and molded my character. Likewise, being Vice President of my choir has taught me leadership skills and caused me to be open with my fellow classmates along with helping my peers understand musical content and techniques.

I am currently a senior in high school and have been singing since the fourth grade. Every year since then, I have performed with the top choirs in my district. While being in these top choirs, I've learned musical skills from choir directors across Texas. In the eighth grade I was placed third chair in the region choir cometition. When I reached high school, I was one of the first sophmores to join Chamber Choir, the elite group amongst all choirs, and Cantare which is a competing group that participates in state competitions. Because of my choir director, I have had the opportunity to work with the choir directors of Sam Houston, Lousiana State University and professional muscians.

About the lesson

First, I would ask the student how familar they are with music and if they play any instruments. Based on that information, I will begin to teach the student acordingly. I will also ask the student what type of learner they are. For example, kinestetic, auditory, or visually. After that, I will teach the student how to read music notes following with learning how to hand sign in solfage. Also, I will ask he or she what they want to accomplish while taking my class.

So far, I've worked with students from ages of fourteen to eighteen years of age. I would like to expand my range into teaching three year olds to eighteen year olds.
