About MaiLyn

I have worked with children of various ages and abilities for 10 years. Working both in the school system as a Teaching Aide and privately as a one-on-one tutor. I have a lot of experience working with children who have special needs. I have a TESOL Certificate and a SLAM (Second Language Acquisition Methodology) Certificate for ASL (American Sign Language). I am certified in over 30 different teachng methods. I am fluent in ASL and I am involved with the Deaf communty on a regular basis. I love working with children and helping them reach their goals. I believe that teaching should be tailored to the individual to help them reach their full potential. I look forward to teaching you!

Right out of High School I started working with children with special needs, unique abilities. I worked in the school system as a substitute Teacher's Aide. It was very fulfilling and from there I went into private care, working with students in their homes.ย

I like to meet with each new student and find out what their learning style is. I like to ask about what teachers have done in the past that was sucessful and maybe what wasn't as sucessful. It's important to know where we are starting so I ask questions about the student's knowledge base in that particular area of study. Finally, I like to ask what the student would like to get out of their lessons (what is their goal).



I have worked with students 9 months old to 37 years old. I have worked with typical students, autistic students, and students with Down Syndrome. Each student had their own goals and learning style.
