About Tim

I have 22 years experience teaching university level mathematics from Elementary Algebra to Multivariable Calculus. I also have experience in elementary and advanced statistics courses. I enjoy hearing about student success and being part of their suceess. I have a graduate degree in Mathematics and also Statistics.

I enjoy helping students succeed. I also understand that many students are not interested in pursuing a degree in a mathematics related field. Many students are lookng for assistance to meet requirements of a degree and just need a little help and assistance to successfully pass their mathematics courses. I love helping such students.

I failed mathematics in high school. In my early 30's I entered a large West Coast university thinking I wanted to be a microbiologist. Within a couple of semester I fell in love with mathematics.

I have a BS degree in Mathematics and Graduate degrees in Mathematics and Statistics. I teach courses from elementary algebra to multivariate calculus. I have significant experience in teaching statistics. I taught at an engineering university for 22 years. I enjoy helping students with elementary courses as well as more advanced courses.

I like to know how far the student has advanced in their current course of study. If they are currently enrolled in a course, I find it helpful for them to share their current notes and assignments. I also find it helpful to see copies of a student's past and currrent homework assignments, quizzes and exams in order to learn expectations from their teachers or groups.

I also want the student to be at ease with learning mathematics and I expect a student to have a good sense of humor.

I have worked with students at all levels of mathematical backgrounds. The thing about learning mathematics is that it reaches across all ethnic, racial, and socio-economic backgrounds. We are all truly equal.

For many students I have worked with and taught over the years, mathematics is part of their required coursework and not the driving force in their lives or degree pursuits. I honor this and work hard to help such students succeed.

I also enjoy students with a healthy sense of humor. They can make the study of mathematics a social endeavor between teach/tutor and student.

Be prepared. Be humble. Laugh. Don't tell me, "You have never been very good at Math." I don't care about that. I care about helping you succeed. If that means prep work or study for an exam or an ongoing learning relationship, then I would expect you to be engaged.

Do not be afraid to ask for last minute help. I enjoy such challenges.

My life revolves around the outdoors. In particular, I am an avid backpacker. I am fond of every step I can take outdoors. Every step is often an event.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
You don't need to think through anything. Just bring your problem or confusion with you, and together we can sort out a solution.
