About Christopher
I have tutored all sections of both the ACT and SAT as well as many other subjects for over five years and have logged over 3,000 tutoring hours as well as over 650 five star ratings through other tutoring services. Some of the other subjects I tutor are: SHSAT/TOEFL/GED, Statistics, research paper writing, Geometry, college essay writing, Algebra I & II, English, probability, study skills and have helped students with a wide range of learning disabilities.
I tutor because I love the challenge of helping people understand new ideas and enjoy making it fun for them. I also like the flexibility that it gives me to pursue my other interests including filmmaking and surfing.
I enjoy the people, the students are what make the work interesting and fun. Every person is unique and has their own perspective so learning is always a little bit different for each person. It is rewarding to see students get a concept for the first time and as I build a repor with them this becomes easier and easier as well as more fun!
I started teaching MS Excel because I had worked in it for five years. I was having fun with it so I decided to branch out, the first step was statistics which is related to Excel. From there I went back and taught myself the SAT/ACT because they are challenging and becaus they have so much demand. From there I have continued to branch out and expand what I can teach.
I have a degree in Economics and worked professionally in MS Excel for five years. I have also taught in classroom settings and tutored standardized testing for over five years.

I start by asking what the student's goals are and how they see their challenges. I talk with them about a plan and what that plan would involve and make sure that they agree, that it makes sense and that they are committed. Over the course of many lessons I assign homework and track the students progress so that they are motivated by that. For each concept I teach, I try to explain it as simply as possible and find an approach that is easiest for them to understand.
I have worked with every type of student imagineable. I have worked with students with learning disorders randing from ADHD to Autism. I have worked with students as young as six and over sixty. I have worked with students desperate to finish a project and others just learning for fun. Diversity is what keeps tutoring interesting and exciting for me.
I recently had a student who had a 26 on the ACT and who had a goal to be somewhere in the 30's. The student worked every day on their own as well as twice a week with me and was very determined. They managed to get a 35, far exceeding their expectations and was accepted early decision. It was great to be able to give them the tools they needed and amazing to watch them take them and run with them.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What are my goals? How much work am I willling to put in on my own and how important is this to me? Have you tried to write out what you are having trouble with, can you clearly describe the problem area?

My 12 yr Son is preparing for the SHSAT and Chris has been doing a great job and deepening his understanding.
He helped to strengthen his approach to solving the problems but even more importantly helped in building his confidence.Christopher Agnew assisted My Daughter in successfully attaining a high SAT score.
The lessons with Christopher were easy to understand and Christopher took the time to explain in detail every aspect of the Test.Christopher is an awesome teacher. Very patient, and he reviewed the work that he had difficulty with and worked with him on it. I look forward to seeing him again.
With a few painless lessons, Chris was able to raise my son's ACT scores significantly. Most impressively, he taught him a few easy strategies for the reading section, which had been his weakest area, which resulted in a 34 on that section. We were very pleased - it was time and money well spent.
Chris helped my son prep for the SAT over the summer, he went from a 1320 to a 1560! He assigned homework and made sure he stayed on task. My son actually enjoyed the lessons, I highly recommend Chris!
Knowledgeable and EXTREMELY patient
Christopher came here to teach me pivot tables which I needed to know for work. I had no knowledge of what they were or did and when he left I had an understanding which I did not think I could achieve in such a short time. The patience he showed was wonderful as I was nervous and he put me at ease which is not an easy task! He also had to figure out what I need to do (in Excel)when I do not completely understand it myself but by the time he left, he understood and I am confident that I can succeed now and it is all because of Christopher!Helpful Geometry Tutor
Just had our first session with Christopher and my daughter is eagerly looking forward to the next one. He added clarity and helped her connect the dots on some concepts that she was unable to get from her high school teacher.Relaxed but perceptive and capable
Having read Christopher's bio, I sensed that there was something special about him, and that he was the right one for our son who has some learning challenges, particularly in the area of Math. I believe it is very important a tutor connects not only on an academic level but also where there can be some light hearted conversation. Christopher arrived punctually for our first meeting and his assessment of our son. In advance of that meeting I had explained to Christopher what the challenges are and what our collective objectives are. As soon as I saw him, he appeared to relaxed but confident. After an initial introduction, I stepped away to let Christopher and our son become acquainted and he immediately set about establishing some common ground which happened to be a particular sport. No more than Christopher, our son is also very perceptive and despite the fact that he initially resisted the idea of any tutor, his words after this first meeting were "I can work with him"! Its obviously early days yet, but so far so good!on time, encouraging and smart
That is what you want in a tutor. Chris takes the time, expects results, increases the child's confidence and pushes them to expect more. We will use him again in a year when our next child is prepping for SAT/ACT.Everything about Christopher was excellent. Easy to reach and and very good tutor. He did a great job listening to what I needed and then seemed to hone in on aspects of Excel that he felt like I would need.
Great tutor! Chris is a terrific tutor. He is patient and explains things they way my son can understand. He calls back immediately and and is very prompt. I would recommend him to anyone.
Very Happy
Chris is a wonderful, kind, and thoughtful tutor. We are very happy with his work in helping to organize our high school junior. Can't ask for more.Patient, Focused, Wide Range of Knowledge. Chris has been working with us since the beginning of the school year. He is always on time and very thorough - taking time to carefully review and help with each lesson. He works with our son on all subjects and we have seen a clear improvement in focus and performance. I would recommend Chris to anyone.
Christopher is a very nice teacher, always patient, encouraging, and kind. My son likes Christopher very much. With his help, my son is making progress step by step and become more confident. Sure, I will recommend Christopher. Hope he will not become too busy because my son need him also :) Maggie
Friendly, attentive and knowledgeable tutor.
Christopher was very flexible in scheduling times to see our student. He came well prepared, was familiar with my son's academic agenda, and was able to quickly assess my son's strengths and weaknesses. We agreed on a strategy going forward and all involved are excited to work with Christopher. He's great!Chris can work independently and is able to follow through to ensure that the job gets done. He had accomplished many tasks with great initiative and with a very positive attitude. He has helped me with my exam and as a result I received an A along with my other assignments and essays. He is a great, intelligent tutor and I highly recommend him!
Chris is a truly gifted tutor. He catapulted me to a whole new level with Excel. He is extremely knowledgeable and able to explain things in ways that make them easy to understand. He is incredibly patient, and able to work collaboratively in ways that allow students to practice their skills with real applications while he offers guidance, advice and solutions. I found him very easy to reach and extremely accommodating and accessible. I worked with Chris for many hours and recommend him most highly as a tutor for anyone, young or mature, beginning or advanced. He is very simply the very best!!!
Wonderful Tutor
