About Shrusti

I am currently a college student at Scottsdale Community College and an after school STEM teacher with Science Matters. I have been tutoring my entire school career, whether it is my peers at school or my sister and her friends. I love helping others with subjects they may have trouble with by explaining in different ways to help them better grasp the concept.

What I enjoy about teaching is helping my students understand the concept. To me, it's always the best feeling ever when a student is able to completely understand a concept and starts to do better in school.

I have always enjoyed being in part of STEM programs and helping out my fellow peers in school subjects, even when I was a kid. Growing up I was always in a science or math-related club and even started my own STEM club at my high school. After graduating I found the company I currently work at called Science Matters where I was able to combine teaching and science, all while being able to create fun experiments with my students while we learn.

I am currently a teacher at Science Matters where I work as an afterschool teacher, from this experience I have been able to learn how to make sure each student is able to grasp the concept by finding out what type of teaching suits each kid. I have also have been able to learn how to make sure each and every kid is involved and gets to be hands-on with each activity because being hands-on is just as important as learning able the concept, just listening to me explain is not as beneficial if they don't get a chance to actually try it out themselves

About the lesson

While working with a new student I would first ask some questions to find out how much the student understands the concept. Then I would focus on the parts the student is having trouble with by finding new and simple ways to explain the concept and working over problems step by step. After I feel the student is feeling more confident I would ask them to solve a couple of problems on their own then go over them with them. If the student is still having more problems with the topic we would work on more practice problems

I have had the pleasure of working with many different types of students ranging from shy and soft-spoken kids to energetic and can't sit in one place kids. I like to change my style of teaching to suit the student like if a kid has a hard time understanding verbally then I try a more interactive approach by having different activities and practices to help them better understand the concept.
