About Melody

I'm a certificated math teacher, currently teaching Advanced Geometry at a high school in Avondale. I live in Peoria so I prefer to stay close to home for tutoring work. I'm excellent with technology and would be happy to tutor online through Zoom if that works best for your schedule. Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked 22 years in corporate IT which is why I love tech! I'm now in my 10th year teaching and I've taught middle and high school math throughout those years. My favorite subjects are Algebra and Geometry (I currently teach advanced Geometry). I enjoy working with teens and particularly boosting the confidence so many have lost when it comes to math. If you will do the work, I can teach you how! I'm available for homework help or to reteach concepts you didn't understand in your classes. I'm flexible and will allow you to drive the sessions based on what you need. Let's work together!

I was called to the profession in my corporate work. I started being asked to deliver training on technology use and Microsoft products (Amin's other topics) and slowly realized that while I was a Service Manager by trade, my talents and passion were in teaching. I loved my years coaching youth soccer and decided to combine the two and become a full time school teacher.

I'm certificated to teach through Precalculus in California and hold a certification through Geometry in Arizona as I just moved here a year ago. I have a BA in Organizational Leadership, a single subject credential in Mathematics, and a Masters of Science in Education Administration. For the past 9 years I have primarily taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and Geometry.

About the lesson

I like to get to know my students first with a conversation. If we need to assess skills, we can do that too. I prefer to work with the student on what they need so that they feel more in control and actually get something out of the time they spend with me.

General and Advanced Education

Make sure you trust them and that you get along. Once the relationship is there, learning will happen. This goes for all subjects, not just math.
