About Katelyn
I am currently a student who really enjoys math. I tutor my peers and I have loved and enjoyed every second of it. I have been told that I should become a teacher with the ability that I have to teach math. After only one two-hour session, I was able to help a student from a 30% overall grade in math to 62%. This has by far been my proudest achievement in tutoring
It is also important to me that I develop a bit of a friendship with the student I am tutoring as it is always easier to learn from a friend who is an equal rather than to learn from someone who believes they are better than everyone else. I have been gifted with the ability to learn and teach math and it is my passion to share that with everyone.
My assistant principal came up to me at lunch one day and asked if I was good at math, specifically geometry. When I told him I understood math well, he hired me on the spot to tutor his son in geometry. From there, I have seen an overwhelming amount of growth and am proud of the efforts that his son has made. It was through this experience that I fell in love with teaching math.
I am still a student and I am learning more about math myself but I have always had an A in math with no lower than a 95% I have 6 College credits in math already and am currently enrolled in AP statistics.

Usually, on the first meeting, I like to see what it is that the student struggles with and why they are struggling. After the initial meeting, or if the meetings is long enough, I jump right into the material so that we don't waste time or money. My process for teaching math is a lot different as most tutors and teachers just give the formulas and equations, where it is important to me that your student understands why the math actually works. My number one priority is helping the student understand math.
I would tell you to just trust your gut. If you know or feel confident in yourself, go with it. I think it is important to find someone relatively similar to who you are and work with them as there is already a basis of connection.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I think they should think through how much effort they are going to put in. There is no point in having a tutor if you aren't going to try and do better. If you truly want to do better, or your parents are pushing you to do better, then reach out and see who is going to help you the most.
